About Me

I am an associate professor in geography at the University of Reading, UK. My research has focussed on modelling and management of toxic cyanobacterial (blue green algal) blooms and more recently, in collaboration with Defu Xu of NUIST China, the use of constructed wetlands for water purification.

I teach modules concerned with the environment, pollution, legislation and resource management. I am School Director of Teaching and Learning in the School of Archaeology, Geography and Environmental Science.

Externally, I am a very experienced institutional reviewer for the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA). I am also the biographer of “American Pie” singer-songwriter Don McLean. Most of my spare time is occupied by my wife and two young children.
